SPY
with their YouthFest 08 Awards:
Melville Theatre Company Encouragement Award
Best Actress (Senior) - Kendra O'Byrne
Great Ensemble Work
We
are now accepting nominations for our new Youth Committee for
2010!
The Stirling Players Committee recently made a change to the
way the Stirling Players Youth group runs. SPY will now be managed
by a committee of young people aged from 16 years, who will
create and run an annual theatre program open to the youth of
the City of Stirling.
The program will include a huge range of theatre-related activities
such as
• Youth productions
• Theatre workshops
• Coordinating events
This
is not simply an opportunity for our young members to be involved
in the theatre, but to actually plan and manage their own work.
It’s also a fantastic way to build theatre skills and
gain viable experience in the arts.
Applications
will be forwarded to our current SPY Coordinator Keren Schlink
and are due by Sunday 13 December 2009.
The
SPY Committee will be elected by the SPY Coordinator and the
Stirling Players General Committee at the January 2010 committee
meeting, and applicants will be notified of the results by mid-January
2010.

SPY
The late Stirling Players club veteran,
Brian Maddocks, started Stirling Players Youth (SPY) in 2001.
The group continues to run on the same initiative it began with
– to teach young people all aspects of the theatre and build
them into strong young actors for the theatre world. The group
focuses not only on acting and performing itself, but teaches
members about all the integral parts that make a theatre –
from lighting and sound to front of house and stage managing.
The SPY group has the advantage of working within a running theatre
and, in the past, members of Stirling have given workshops for
the group.
SPY runs with the school term, and
works toward some sort of performance at the end of the term whether
it be a theatre sports competition night, a short skit for the
Stirling Theatre club nights or a one-act play to be entered in
the state youth drama festival. There is something different each
term, and there are new challenges to be met all the time. Members
also have the opportunity to get involved in major shows at Stirling.
In recent years, the club has staged youth-dominated productions;
including Noah: The Musical, Narnia: the Musical and
Toad of Toad Hall. SPY members are also encouraged to take
up technical roles and be involved in the theatre.
SPY is free to join; however all
members are asked to join the Stirling Players. This is as simple
as $14 for the year for persons under 18, or the entire family
can join. Stirling Players Youth runs every Wednesday during the
school term from 7-9pm at the Stirling Theatre (located in Morris
Place, Innaloo).
For further information, do not hesitate
to contact the SPY co-ordinator, Keren Schlink, on 0432
860 946.
